Torsten Körner’s documentary tells a little-known story of the Federal Republic of Germany: he looks at the women who have fought for their place in politics since the 1950s. Using archive material from parliamentary sessions, the women’s speeches and the men’s reactions, the film makes it immediately clear how enormous a task it was to be taken seriously at that time – before anyone could even think about equality. Körner also adds current interviews with the same female politicians, whose look back at male dominance is as frightening as it is entertaining. They remind us of the rigid gender roles that prevailed before they began their fight, and we see the strength that was needed to fight until this day.
